Sew Stripes Month Instagram Round-Up: Feb 21 – 28

Welcome Sewcialists to the last #sewstripes Round-Up. Claire here, from @claireecollie. There have been SO MANY shared projects from the Stripes Month Challenge.

Copy of february (6)

As usual: If we missed you, it may be because your Instagram profile is private, it wasn’t clearly marked as a new make for #sewstripes, Instagram’s algorithm was not playing nice, or maybe Claire just didn’t have enough coffee. If you feel your make was missed for February 21-28, please feel free to leave it in the comments.

So I didn't think I'd get much sewing done this week, but the boys indulged me yesterday morning by letting me have half half an hour down time while they watched telly in our bed. That was all I needed to quickly sew up another @simplesewuk tshirt, a super satisfying make that I plan on making an army of! Best thing about this one is that the fabric was an off cut I bought on Saturday for just 50p!!!! I'm fully aware it's not top quality jersey, and will probably bobble fairly quick, but for slobbing with the kids and working at the allotment this summer it will be spot on. I hate waste, and I'm super chuffed that this little scrap came home with me and is now a perfectly wearable top, instead of in land fill. Being able to make day to day basics is also rocking my world atm, stopping me from buying alternatives from the high street, where the seams aren't straight and have probably been made by someone in a sweat shop!! So yes, this is a happy make for so many reasons, not least that it's pink stripes!! Happy hump day folks!! #imadethis #imakemyownclothes #happytopday #sewist #sewistofinstagram #sewcialist #stripes #sewstripes #sewcialists

Channeling Lisa Comfort in my newest make the Molly top from the My Capsule Wardrobe City Break ebook by @sewoveritlondon (check out the book cover to see what I'm talking about 😀). To be honest, I feel a bit meh about this make. I love the shape of the hem (and it's by far my best twin needle job to date) and the proportion of the sleeves, but there a few things I will change for next time I make this pattern: 1. Choose a drapier fabric – this jersey curled like nobody's business and it's not stretchy and drapey enough 2. Modify the neckband – it's a bit gapey on this one 3. Find a way to make a sway back adjustment – swipe for a picture of the back, there is a lot of fabric pooling there – do any of you have this problem and know of a good tutorial out there? 4. Either sew it on my machine or modify the seam allowance – the pattern comes with a 1.5 cm SA and I was stubborn and wanted to sew it on my overlocker which led to a very messy neckband and sewing the side seams at 1 cm just to get it over with – how do you guys work with a knit pattern that doesn't come with a 1 cm SA? All in all, it's a wearable muslin (cute pajama top?) and it taught me a lot of lessons so I count it as a success and one more make nine DONE. Also, it's #sewstripes month over @sewcialists if you want to see more handmade stripey loveliness. . . . . . #2018makenine #soimollytop #mycapsulewardrobe #soishowoff #sewcialists #isew #stripedtop #memadeeveryday #sewinglove #diy #handmadewardrobe #makenine2018 #thehappynow #ootd #handmade #croitorie #romaniasews #millennialsewing #fashionsewing #slowfashion #soicitybreak #sewoverit

I am a little late to the party, but have you guys seen the new #jordybralette pattern from @emeralderinsews? It’s a great little bralette which is rather easy to make and is a great introduction to lingerie sewing. I was honoured to participate in testing of the pattern and almost immediately I knew I had to hack it into a swimsuit. In line with #sewstripes @sewcialists theme this Jordy bralette and #watsonbikini bottom became a striped swimsuit. I added ruffles to the bralette to spice it up a bit. I wrote about this make on Sewcialists blog, but I have a tutorial coming for this Jordy hack soon! . . . #emeralderinpatterns #swimsuitsewing #diyswimwear #diybikini #isew #instasew #sewistsofinstagram #diyfashion #memadeeveryday #memadewardrobe #clothhabitwatson #clothhabit

Thank you to everyone who participated in #SewStripes! Our community has grown exponentially over the last 9 months since we relaunched, and we’re thrilled that so many people feel included and represented!

As always, things will be quiet here in the month after a Theme Month – we’ll be publishing some Who You Are posts and starting to gear up behind the scenes for our next theme month in May!
