Sew Stripes Month Instagram Round-Up: February 11 – 20th

Welcome Sewcialists, to the second #SewStripes Round-Up. Becky here, of @sewbeckyjo, and I’m excited to say that sewists around the world have been amazing participants in this Stripes Month Challenge.

Copy of february (6)

As usual: If we missed you, it may be because your Instagram profile is private, it wasn’t clearly marked as a new make for #sewstripes, Instagram’s algorithm was not playing nice, or maybe Becky just didn’t have enough coffee. If you feel your make was missed for February 11-20, please feel free to leave it in the comments.

We are kicking off with this incredible Spring upcycle inspiration. This is a lot of cute in one photo:

Skirts

Annie hits the perfect retro-modern combo:

I’ve totally done the quick-knit-pencil skirt. It’s the BEST sewjo pick-me-up and I am absolutely NOT sick of seeing this darling knit fabric:

The contrast pockets are so adorable!

Michelle’s photo reminds me of those Find and Seek puzzles everyone loves: How many things with stripes can you find?

Pants

I was a tween in the best part of the 80’s, so patterned pants make me all kinds of heart-eyes.

That’s some next level matching right there through the pocket:

Shirts

This creamy peach fabric is so yummy:

I’m going to need this, complete with robot patch, in my size, ok? Thanks!

Sew-stripes month has proven to be excellent motivation for everyday staple shirts:

I got the opportunity to partner up with Indie Sew for a few blog posts this year – the first one is up today! Creative bamboo-stripe placement from Vicky:

I love the peek-a-boo red pockets:

What a neat textured stripe!

“Raglan connoisser” is my new favorite phrase.

I love this version of the Dove pattern in a stripe:

I love this reversible scrap-buster top, and what creative use of African wax print:

This is a great example of one pattern in different fabrics. There’s a heather gray, a ribbed AND stripped version, and a ribbed heather gray version. A solid ribbed knit is a great entry-fabric for playing with stripes.

I love the casual-sultry look:

This is such a fun blouse. Piping, bow, front yoke, and the most amazing cats-as-stripes pattern.

There can never be enough woven t-shirt patterns.

We gave you cats-as-stripes, and now, trees-as-stripes:

Oh! Mini-man button up is all the cutes:

While I will never get tired of a basic striped t-shirt, if you’re feeling like you need a change, adding a contrast neckband and/or flutter-sleeve shoulders is a fun way to spice it up!

Check out those stripe points:

Sunshine on my shoulders…makes me happy….

Dresses

I love the directional switch-up on Lisa’s Moneta:

Cocos are a popular pattern to use for stripes with its 60s mod vibe:

The Turner dress proves again it is a wardrobe workhorse with Jen about to rock it at a conference:

Everything about this photo makes me happy: Pacific Northwest grays and greens, clever black lace stripe, fabulous shoes, and the best dog-model ever.

I am a sucker for a dolman sleeve:

Not only is this dress all kinds of sunshine and lovely…Maria gives us the most perfect shot of Dubai. I need to go renew my passport now…

So. Stylish.

I’m so in love with Kate’s pattern-mash-up-refashion:

Adorable!

I love when inspiration jumps the sewing queue:

Anna blogged this gorgeous dress on the Sewcialists blog:

For the #sewstripes month @sewcialists I finally finished an UFO from last summer. Its from the July 2017 issue of @burdastylegermany. Head over to sewcialists to see more 😎😎😎 . Btw this is also my #cocktaildress for #dayandnightdresschallenge. I decided for yacht club style. Unfortunatelly the weather (subzero) did not agree with a photoshoot on a boot (they are all stored away). The #coffeedress is also in a #stripedfabric … coming soon. . #makersgonnamake #sewingaddict #sewingworld #burda #burdastyle #minidress #dress #blueandwhite #sewsewsew #memadewardrobe #memadeclothes #nähenverbindet #nähenmachtglücklich #nähinspiration #selfmade #ootd #nähen #diyfashion #diy #sewing

Below is a version of how a stripe can read as a solid from a distance. So, if you’re not sure you’re ready for the stripe-matching of the cocktail dress above, maybe something more relaxed like the Copen dress below:

Cardi-coats

This Blackwood Cardigan is giving me all the chill coastal vibes.

And saving Jamie’s masterpiece for last, I can’t even do it justice. You must go read about The ‘Don’ here. There’s a beautiful story, and since I too have a father-in-law in the nautical industry, I may have cried a little bit. Just a bit.

Can you believe this incredible round-up of stripe challenge makes? I’m beyond inspired by our tribe of talented makers. Which has been your favorite so far?
