I'm sure everyone is as tired of seeing this striped knit as I am of sewing it.  But I wanted to make something for @sewcialists #sewstripes month, and I still had a bunch of this left over.  This is the pirate pencil skirt by @patternsforpirates and I can't recommend it enough!  It is easy to tape together (no trim pages!), doesn't use much fabric, is fast to sew, and free!  I cut a size too large and in the process of taking in the side seams I ruined my stripe matching. But oh well, it's very comfy and I love how it fits!

I've been wanting to sew with this African fabric for so long! I picked it up in the Central African Republic in 2011. I did use some to make a boppy cover but I really only bought about three yards of it. Which was stupid because I didn't have much left….But in the spirit of #makeyourstash I decided to create a quilted shirt with it. It's cut on the bias to give it some stretch and I used a similar weight black linen for the contrast. Does it count for #sewstripes ? This is a great example of one pattern in different fabrics. There’s a heather gray, a ribbed AND stripped version, and a ribbed heather gray version. A solid ribbed knit is a great entry-fabric for playing with stripes.

This is one of my favourite dresses. I drafted the pattern off a rtw dress I wore to death, but I at the time I was terrified of sleeves 😂 Thank goodness for dolman sleeves, the ultimate sleeve cheat (especially in a knit). The fabric has pilled, and I knew nothing about finishing necklines in knits when I made it, but I still love it. Really wanted to do @sewcialists #sewstripes without making something new so I unpicked a dress and remade it. This is the third time lucky after a couple of failed alterations when I didn’t know any better. I’m happy to have extended the life of this dress – it’s 4 years old now! When I heard that @sewcialists had named February #sewstripes month it finally made me get my act together and sew this dress which has been on my to do list for over a year 🙈 The pattern is #larktee from #grainlinestudio which I lengthen by about 20 cm (the original pattern is quite long on me from the start).
