Welcome to 2018, Sewcialists! I hope your year is off to a wonderful start — or at least, you have dreams of fun sewing projects dancing through your head!
To get your creative juices flowing, why not join us in February for our next sewing theme: #SewStripes? It’s all about sewing stripes, which could be anything from a cute and easy Breton top to a pinstripe suit! Stripes offer all kinds of potential for directional layouts with strong graphic impact, but also work well in any basic pattern. We’ll be offering you some inspiration in January, and then jump into sharing community projects in February.
If you’d like to contribute a post, we’ll be putting out a call on Friday for four volunteer authors on the blog, and four more on Instagram. You can also participate by tagging your new stripy makes in February with #SewStripes on Instagram, and we’ll include them in our blog round-ups!
I’ve got some striped sweater knit calling my name — how about you? Tell us below what you might make this February!
I have plans for a striped Blackwood cardigan.
Me too! Although to be honest, the second I look at striped fabric I have a million ideas and can’t choose just one! 😉 Happy sewing!
Perfect, I’ve got a couple of jersey stripes waiting in my stash!
Excellent! Whatcha going to make?
Definitely a long sleeve tshirt, maybe a polo shirt too if I can find a fabric for the collar…?
I never think about stripes…February is also going to be pants month for me…now I want striped baggy MC Hammer pants! It sounds ridiculous but I think it could be super rad.
Oh my goodness – yes please!!!!!
I can’t wait to see all the inspiration posts.
Me too! I think I might be in a rut with stripes, and I”m looking forward to seeing what other people come up with!
I have some great striped fabrics in the stash. I loved the last challenge. Count me in for this one. Xx
Excellent! Can’t wait to see what you dig out of the stash!!
Looking forward to it! 🤗
Me too! It’s fun to host such a simple challenge – not much explaining needed, but still lots of potential!
I am excited. Not sure how to do the posting as I have never done anything like this before but I will figure it out. Making a striped shirt. Beginner Seamstress.
Awesome! It’s suuuuper easy to join in – basically, make somthing and tag us #sewstripes on Instagram, and we’ll retweet your pic and include it in the round-up… or if you aren’t on Instagram, then email us a picture and we’ll include it in the round-up that way!
I found some wonderful striped fabric in my collection and plan on making a t-shirt just have to work out whether it will be short sleeve or long.
You can’t go wrong with a stripey tee! They are such a workhorse!
I have an intention not to buy any fabric for the next three months. However, I do have a leftover bit of stripey knit in my stash just enough for a tank top. It may be a bit early to make one but then again I will not be in a rush to finish it before summer 😉
That is smart thinking! I often make tanks out of scraps – and if I wear them in a different season that the other item I made with the fabric, I like to pretend no one notices they are the same! 😉
Stripes ahoy! I’ve got 1.5m of gorgeous striped blue/grey jersey to use up – I just need to work out what I can squeeze out of it: tallperson=gibbonarms.
That sounds lovely! Maybe some creative seaming on the sleeves would give you extra length?
Great idea, thank you!
Love stripes! Hopefully a T-shirt dress is coming up 🙂
That sounds really cute!
