Ta-da! The results from your voting are in, and TNT month was one of the most popular choices!
TNT is short for Tried’N’True patterns – the ones you make over and over that always work out well. TNTs are great when your wardrobe needs multiples of a basic item, like underwear, jeans or tee… but they are also great as a basic block for a dress or top that can be hacked into all kinds of variations! I personally love TNT patterns, and easily 80% of my wardrobe is made up of repeats.
That said, TNTs don’t come easily for everyone. Some sewists love the challenge of a new pattern, or just can’t find the perfect fit they want to replicate over and over. Other people have patterns they love and mean to repeat, but just haven’t done it yet!
With those different perspectives in mind, there are lots of ways to take part in TNT month:
- Do a wrap-up of your favourite TNT pattern or patterns! (Here’s some examples of this type of post from my blog or by Carolyn from Diary of a Sewing Fanatic)
- Get creative and sew a fun new version of one of your TNTs!
- Choose a pattern that worked well the first time, and make another to see if it deserves TNT status!
- Don’t have a TNT yet? Narrow down what type of TNT you want, and what features it should have… then find a pattern and get sewing to see if it works for you!
Basically, make the theme work for you! Celebrate TNT patterns in anyway you want.

Ui, so many oprions! There’s fabric in my stash and the idea to make a Rachel Green inspired “Save the drama for your Mama” shirt with my TNT Lark Tee pattern. Maybe that’s the kick in the butt I need to finally start making it. 😉

I only have 3 TNT patterns. I’ve made several pairs of Chi Town shorts and now just finished my second pair of the trousers. For TNT month I’m hoping to sew up a second pair of Liana stretch jeans from Itch to Stitch and another Georgia Top from Blue Dot patterns. I’m looking forward to seeing what other share.
How is it that I’ve never heard of most of these? I’m going to have to go look them up now!
Sew excited! (har har) I have many TNTs and can’t wait to sew them all up…again and again. 😉
How many TNTs do you have? I have a few, but I think that’s mostly because I get distracted by new shiny patterns 😀
Let’s see: Jenna cardi, upton dress, concord t, misty jeans, pavlova skirt, myrtle dress, turner dress, swoon scarf neck cardigan. That is just the patterns I have made more than 3 times. There are some I just tried that I feel are set to become TNTs: ESP dress, dartmouth top, and Chore skirt. But I haven’t made them enough to call them TNTs just yet. lol. 😉 I also get distracted by new shiny patterns. I’m trying not to buy any more new patterns, though.
I love the theme, and it will be well paired with “one week one pattern” also happening in November 🙂 nice!!

Oooh, I like this. I would love to be able to have a pattern that works for me and that I can make up multiple times. It takes me so long to alter anything that by the time I have made all my pattern adjustments I have no time to sew. I have one on the table just now that will fit the bill and I have bits cut out for wearable muslin V1.0. Lets see how it looks on. Thank you for the boot in the right direction. 🙂
What are you trying out? And how’s it going?!
I am trying out New Look K6471. I had to do a monster FBA and added in a bust dart. All the darts are sewn and the back seam. Just need to get the overlocker set up before I go any further. Will keep you posted. It looks a very versatile pattern. Xx
Oh, this sounds really interesting. In all honesty, I don’t make too many clothes for myself anymore. Once upon a time I was superfit, but after baby #2 “a little bit more to love.” would be in my pretend dating profile. 😀 So I tend to be much happier making clothes for the kiddos or clients. I am also an apple shape. YAY. 🙁 So I’d love to find a pattern to fit my shape that I could make in various ways, because store bought clothes aren’t cutting it. If anyone has any suggestions I will go right out and get the pattern and definitely try to make at least 2 versions of it to see if it works for me. Love, Appley Apple

I’ve been planning since early this year to adapt my TNT tee pattern to make cardigans. That seems like it would be a great project for November!
That’s on my list of things to do this fall too!
The Springfield top from Cashmerette would be my TNT. Very little altering. Fits beautifully, fun to sew! I’ve only made 1 so far, but it calls my name!
I wasted time this summer making 2 “flop” top patterns from the same company, total waste of time. :o(
I’m so new to patterns created in the last 10- 15 years. All of the patterns I had were from the 90s, early 2000 and there isn’t a TNT in them.
I was re-fashioning my ready wear before I found Cashmerette.
After the babies, the only patterns I’ve had consistent success with is the Sewaholic Rae skirt (super basic and elastic waist, how depressing), the Cake Espresso leggings, and the Deer & Doe Plantain. I have yet to determine how to resize previous favorites like the Renfrew to see if they still work. But I think what I’m going to tackle, if I finish my current projects in time, is the Deer & Doe Bruyere. I’ve made it once and it’s already fitting well again, and I’ve had fabric set aside for a second all year!
