Hi there! Gillian here, with a round up of Red October dresses!
The sewing event so nice, we logo’d it twice!
I dreamed up this first logo as soon as the monthy theme was dreamed up (on Twitter, as these things always are!) … but pretty soon we starting planning a whole year of colour themes, so Mari from Disparate Disciplines and I made a second logo that can be adapted through the year!
We had LOADS of people join the sewalong by sewing something red and posting it in the Flickr group, so without further ado, here is the first post of our roundup: Dresses!

But that’s not all, my friends… Look, look, look! The fabulous Roisin admits that she rarely “joins in” organised sewing challenges, but oh boy, did she rock Red October! Look at the FOUR red frocks she churned out this month!
I’m so impressed with these Red October dresses! There’s a wide range of styles, from casual knits to retro chic, but everyone looks great!
Many people mentioned during the month that they are motivated to add more red to their wardrobe, and so am I! One thing I notice is that a lot of the outfits above are styled with red or black accessories. What colours do you like to wear with red? Do you go for basic neutrals like white, black or navy, or brights like pink, turquoise or yellow?
Lovely array of dresses all in red! And still love the needle submarine badge. Makes me laugh every time.
I love that logo too! The other one is functional but not nearly as fun! 😉 Your Davie Bowie outfit is the first pic in the next roundup, btw! 😉

Thanks, Jo! I’d been thinking of starting a Sewcialist blog since August, but once I saw how many awesome Red October projects were made, I knew I had to do it RIGHT AWAY!!! Too much good stuff that I didn’t want to miss!
Oh that submarine is tooo great. I sadly missed out on doing red October due to other commitments but I’m looking forward to other challenges.. I love mint with red!
December’s theme is going to be green, so maybe you could make a red and mint outfit then! I love that colour combo too, but I can never think just to pull it off myself. Maybe I’ll wear my mint necklace today, and see what I can put with it… 😉
Oh, I’ve never really mixed red with turquoise or yellow – good thinking. I wish I was more organised and had more spare time as I’d love to join in with some of these challenges. Following a flood of my home last week, all my current sewing projects are on hold for the moment until everything has dried out a little more.
Wow, a flood? Yikes! My mother-in-law always says, “Life is not a competition but a celebration of each individual”. I think getting through a busy month and a flooded house means you’ve accomplished plenty! There will lots more colour challenges, so hopefully you can join us when you’ve got time! 🙂
I love the logo and this is such a fun idea for a sewalong. Hopefully i can join in in December, I’ve got an idea for it already!

These are fantastic! Despite the literal rainbow in my closet, I don’t wear red much, because I have a hard time finding other colours to wear with it. I lean mostly to the secondary colours, which don’t seem to go with red as well. I’m going to have to try to branch out, though, when styling my couple of red dresses.
